4.0 : activating multitasking on the 3G iPhone

Officially introduced multitasking on the iPhone using firmware 4.0, which will be offered for download to memory at the beginning of summer, will not work on iPhone 3G. Officially, because as noted by a developer, jailbreak enthusiasts probably have the ability to easily activate this feature.

On Twitter, Will Strafach has indeed pointed out that multitasking was indeed present in the version dedicated to the iPhone 3G firmware 4.0. The function would simply not enabled. To remedy this, he would then edit one file system configuration, N82AP.plist, and to change the value on multitasking from “False” to “True”. The amendment, however, will be performed in SSH: it will therefore be able to operate to jailbreak your iPhone to 4.0, which seems a good start.

The question is how the iPhone 3G will behave once it has enabled the multi-task. If Apple has not enabled this feature by default, because of fears that the resources of the unit are not sufficient. Insofar Backgrounder works well on iPhone, however, should not be a problem …
