Hi, I am from Hong Kong China.Since, I have heard that apple device jailbreak is now popular and cashless apps, also almost all my friends who using it said it awesome. Therefore, I decided to have a try of Jailbreak on my ipad1.
So, first, 14/11/2011-today,I found a Chinese web (http://www.gizzomo.com/jailbreak/ipad/ipad-1g-jailbreak-4.2.1.php) which teaches hoe to jailbreak ipad with ios 4.2.1, I am now using Windows 7
Software need are all provided from that web:
-itunes
-ipad ios 4.2.1
-GreenPoisOn RC6.1 Windows
You might not understand what that web say, but never mind:
1) Plug ipad to computer and backup with itunes
2) Switch off ipad by pressing on/off button+menu button, after switch off release on/off button and remain menu button pressed. Unitl itunes detects and shows up DFU mode actived
3) Shift+restore button on itunes and select ipad ios 4.2.1 file which just downloaded from the web. Wait until itunes respond
4) Should appear:
? Extracting software…
? Verifying iPad restore with Apple…
? Preparing iPad for restore…
? Restoring iPad software…
? Verifying iPad software…
? Verifying iPad restore…
? Restoring iPad firmware…

Here’s the problem I experienced. After extracting software, “The ipad “ipad” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194).
So, I checked on the web, and on youtube. Others just solve it by going to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, open hosts with notepad, then add “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” to the very bottom.
I then followed, but the edited notepad hosts always appears as could not save because it is a text file or sth. Later, I realized that to Windows 7, I must run the notepad with Administrator privileges. Ever time I clicked on hosts, it asked me to select a file type to open it, I see notepad there, but couldn’t right click to run with Administrator privileges. I then right click on the icon to notepad. Run with Administrator privileges. After opening, I clicked File->Open, to open hosts file as when it was all file types. I added “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” to the very bottom. Save it, and exit.
Closed and restarted itunes again (note that I was wrong, I should close the itunes before editing hosts, but it don’t affect, I tried many times later), redo restoring job, but it appears the same thing,error (3194).
Restarting my computer after editing hosts is my other option. The first time after reopening itunes after restarting my computer got another problems when restoring, not (3194), but (11). Always, the second time, it went back to (3194)…I don’t know did restarting my computer affects it because I only tried once or twice.
I checked with apple support, suggesting that I should update itunes to the newest version, I did
it, nothing changes at all.
Restoring with not 4.2.1 (not Shift+Restore). With the one itunes set for my ipad also have the (3194) problem.
This’s my problem for now, poor my ipad cannot use now. Please help whatever country you are. Please give useful advice, At last, sorry if my English is bad >_<

Sorry, that, my ipad is now dead and I cant even turn it on. I link it to my itunes. " Itunes has detected ipad in recovery mode. You must restore this ipad before it can be used with itunes." when opening itunes. I click on restore. But somehow...error (3194)...

BUT:

Every Jail-break website warns you NOT to try to Jail-break your iPod, if you don’t know what you’re doing. You should have heeded the warning, particularly not skipping the Back Up step.
