I think it is ridiculous the amount of control Apple is imposing over Apps, but I think it is even more ridiculous how inconsistent they are at deciding which apps should be allowed and which apps shouldn’t. If Apple had their own app store and then allowed customers to install apps from a third party, I would understand. I would also be happy if Apple would offer a smaller “reject shop” on the side where people can choose to install rejected third party apps at their own risk, perhaps even for a fee. I’m strongly against Apple controlling what applications and content you can put on your devices without offering at least some way to override those restrictions.

I suppose we should be grateful for what we have. It’s hard to remember, but when the iPhone first came out, it didn’t even have an App store, and yet people still bought the phone.

The iPad is even more ludicrous. Lets compare any Windows 7 tablet that has a fully functional Operating System with Apple’s locked down over-sized smart phone. There is no contest, and I think only a fool would buy and support the iPad. It is a major step backward in computing, and if it becomes successful, it just makes it easier for other manufacturers to get away with locking down their products, and eventually we could end up in a world where every manufacturer has their own proprietary system where you can only install approved applications on your computer from an approved app store at a fee and those apps are not cross-platform either. As a programmer, this really scares me.
